Software engineer injures wife, commits suicide
New Delhi: A 32-year-old software engineer committed suicide here by hanging himself after critically injuring his wife, who works in a trading company, on her head with a sharp object, police said Sunday.
The mother of Amit Bachhan called for help after finding herself locked from outside in a room of the flat at Platinum Heights Apartments in Dwarka in southwest Delhi around 4.30 a.m. Sunday.
The security guards, after freeing the elderly woman, found Bachhan hanging from a ceiling fan in another room and his wife, Shivani, 28, in a pool of blood.
She was rushed to a hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.
The couple married in November but their marriage was fraught with frequent quarrels, police said. They said no suicide note was recovered.
Police said the couple fought Saturday night too after locking Bachhan’s mother in her room.
Shivani’s father, however, said that his daughter called the police control room several times after being attacked by her husband. But police insisted they immediately responded to the distress call.
