The Tracer 9 GT features a newly developed 890cc liquid-cooled three-cylinder, DOHC, four-valve-per-cylinder fuel-injected (YCC-T) engine with a downdraft intake.

Powering the Yamaha R125 is a single-cylinder 125cc engine with the output rated at 14.8bhp at 9000 rpm and 11.5Nm at 8000 rpm.
