President Biden said he had ordered the military to shoot it down on Wednesday in internal discussions preceding the public disclosure.
The position is equivalent to the minister of state in India and marks a new milestone for Indian-Americans as he is the first member of the community to serve at this level of seniority in the State Department.
The President's remarks were made in the context of the changing geopolitical situation globally.
"My symptoms were mild, my recovery was quick and I'm feeling great," Biden said on Wednesday in remarks from the Rose Garden.
