The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) is seeking the support of India and other neighbouring countries to find a Navy boat with six sailors, which had reportedly gone missing for more than a month while on a naval operation.
Fishermen organisations of Tamil Nadu alleged that the Sri Lankan navy also seized one mechanized boat used by the fishermen.
A total of 540 fishermen from Rameswaram had ventured into the sea in several boats on Saturday and when they were to return on Sunday, eight were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy citing that they had crossed the IMBL.
In a separate incident, 13 fishermen from Nagapattinam and Karaikal were also questioned and detained. They had set sail from Karaikkal port on Wednesday morning.
With this incident, 29 fishermen and six fishing boats are under the custody of the Sri Lankan authorities in the month of February alone.
