In a strong reaction, Bharatiya Janata Party's Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, said: "The court has exposed the draconian and undemocratic policies and actions of this MVA Govt to shut the dissenting voices. Will the MVA government now apologise for wrongly confining the public representatives."
The Ranas were arrested from their home on April 23 after they threatened to go to 'Matoshri', the private residence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in Bandra East, to chant 'Hanuman Chalisa'.
The couple was arrested from their home after giving a call for reciting Hanuman Chalisa outside Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's private residence.
The Mumbai Police had served the Ranas notice on Saturday, requesting that the couplerefrain from carrying out their plans, and they did not listen after which they were detained and arrested that evening.
Soon after the court verdict, the couple stepped out with disappointment written on their faces, Navneet Rana is likely to be taken to the Byculla Women's Jail and Ravi Rana may be lodged in the Arthur Road Central Jail.
