Monkeypox is a sylvatic zoonosis with incidental human infections that usually occur in forested parts of Central and West Africa. It is caused by the monkeypox virus which belongs to the orthopoxvirus family, the WHO added.
Spain is monitoring eight men who it believes are infected, with tests being carried out to confirm the virus, Daily Mail reported.
The cases are from the same household and are not linked to a previous infection confirmed by the agency last week, which had been linked with recent travel history to Nigeria where they are believed to have caught it.
