The Philippines is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world, mainly due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire and Pacific typhoon belt.
During the financial year 2021-22, the Central Government has released Rs 17,747.20 crore to 28 states for their SDRF and an additional fund of Rs 3,543.54 crore has been released to seven states from NDRF too, officials added.
According to an estimate by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, paddy worth 10 billion NPR ($8 million) has been destroyed.
Meanwhile, around 4,000 people are now lodged at various camps that have been opened in Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts of the state.
As many as 41 bodies have been recovered at Taliye village in Raigad where a landslide struck on Thursday. Several others are still missing, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Konkan) Sanjay Mohite told.
In all these incidents, an estimated 70-80 persons are still feared trapped in the debris and rubble with the NDRF, Army, Navy and local teams attempting to save them as rains continued to lash the region.
In other incidents, at least 30 persons were killed in different landslides or hillslides in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara and over 50 others still feared trapped in these districts that have witnessed heavy floods and waterlogging after heavy rains in the past 48 hours.
