Badminton was for the first time included as an official sport at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, and Indian para-shuttlers put on a stunning show with some aggressive and tactical strategy of play, right from the word go. India had sent five shuttlers to Paralympics and all five reached at least the semis. Four players - Pramod Bhagat, Krishna Nagar, Suhas Yathiraj and Manoj Sarkar produced historic and magical performances in the para-badminton games to etch their names in record books.
On the final day of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, India claimed two medals -- a gold and a silver in badminton -- and finished 24th among 162 nations in the overall medal tally on the basis of gold medal count, while it is placed 20th based on the number of medals (19) it won.
It’s fifth gold medal for India at the Paralympics and second in Badminton. An outstanding performance against Hong Kong's Chu Man Kai on Sunday ensured that a deserving Krishna Nagar gets nothing less than gold at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Krishna Nagar beat Chu Man Kai in three hard-fought games in the final of the Men's badminton singles SH6 class at Tokyo.
This was India's fifth gold at the Games.
