Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has termed the spread of the border skirmishes from 20 odd villages under Kotia Gram Panchayat to other border villages in Koraput and Gajapati districts as ‘unfortunate’ and ‘matter of serious concern’.

The dispute over Kotia is a long-pending border issue between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Both the States have been claiming their sovereign rights over the area, which consists of 27 small tribal hamlets at the border.

The State government's move came in the wake of the announcement by Andhra Pradesh government for holding panchayat polls in disputed Kotia region of Koraput. The government has prayed before the court for speedy hearing in connection with the issue.
