India made six changes to their side and apart from the five debutants also brought in pacer Navdeep Saini. The team management rested the second ODI's player of the match, Deepak Chahar.
Deepak Chahar played calmly, hitting seven fours and a six while vice-captain Bhuvneshwar scored 19 off 28 deliveries and importantly guided his junior through the chase.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat in the second One-day International against India here at the R Premadasa Stadium.
India have retained the playing XI that won the first match on Sunday by seven wickets. For Sri Lanka though, pace bowler Kasun Rajitha has replaced Isuru Udana.
Chamika Karunaratne was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 43. A lot of players got into double figures but could not post a big score.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat. Skipper Dasun Shanaka said after the toss that the ideal history of batting first at the venue prompted him to take the call.
As per the original schedule, the series was to start with the ODI leg on July 13, followed by matches on July 16 and July 18. The T20I games were scheduled for July 21, July 23 and July 25.

The all-India senior selection committee picked the squad for three ODIs and three T20I series, to be played between July 13 and 25, said a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Indian selectors are expected to pick plenty of fringe players for the limited overs tour with Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya in the fray for leading the side. A fully fit Shreyas Iyer is another captaincy option.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Sunday said that the Indian team, sans the top players, will tour Sri Lanka in July for a limited overs bilateral series.
