Karunaratne put up a defiant show against a relentless India bowling attack as Sri Lanka began day three on a positive note. The visitors showed some fight in the start of day's play as Karunaratne used his feet straightaway to take two boundaries off Ravindra Jadeja through the off-side. Runs began to flow for the visitors' as Kusal Mendis glanced and lofted Ravichandran Ashwin for boundaries.

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (5/41) was the pick of the bowlers for India while Ravichandran Ashwin (2/49) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/36) also played their part in wrapping up the Sri Lankan innings.
India is slowly and surely batting Sri Lanka out of the game as the seventh wicket partnership of 130 runs between Jadeja and Ashwin, has in all likelihood, put a final nail in their coffin unless, there is an out of the world batting effort from Sri Lanka.

Accompanied by a Team Doctor, he was taken to a local hospital last night for a check-up where a CT scan was conducted. The findings of the CT scan are normal," the BCCI said in a statement.

After bowling two overs each of Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah in tandem, skipper Rohit Sharma introduced Harshal Patel into the attack in the 5th over and both Gunathilaka and Nissanka picked boundaries while stepping out of the crease. Yuzvendra Chahal then conceded seven runs off his first over as Sri Lanka managed to post 32 runs in the powerplay without any wicket.
Earlier on Thursday, just before the start of the first T20I between India and Sri Lanka at Lucknow, the BCCI had put out an update, saying that Gaikwad was unavailable for selection due to pain in right wrist.
Charith Asalanka was the lone ranger for Sri Lanka while Dushmantha Chameera took a six and two fours off Iyer to showcase his batting skills. Asalanka reached his fifty off 43 balls with a flick through mid-wicket and that was the lone bright spot for Sri Lanka in the series opener.
Lucknow will now host the first T20I while the next two will be played in Dharamsala.
The first Test will now be played in Mohali, with the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has now upgraded its flood lights, set to host the tour-ending pink-ball Test.
