NASA is launching its first Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) targeting an asteroid. A NASA spacecraft is set to smash into an asteroid (posing no threat to earth) early on Tuesday. The Test will be carried out to test a technology to defend Earth against potential asteroid or comet hazards in future.

Asteroids which have been hitting the Earth for billions of years are believed to be a reason behind the extinction of dinosaurs 66 million years ago.
