Cumulatively, 16,92,68,754 people in the 18-44 age group have received the first dose and 1,07,72,537 have been administered the second dose of the vaccine since the start of the third phase of the nationwide inoculation drive, the ministry said.
Molnupiravir "interferes with a part of the virus that is conserved across different variants -- specifically, the enzyme that it uses to copy its genetic material for replication", said Dr Conrad Chan, laboratory director at the Defence Medical and Environmental Research Institute from DSO.
"From a public health point of view, we would say that there are no concerns that the virus or vaccines can be incorporated into human DNA."
SARS-CoV-2-specific mucosal immunity is possible after intranasal vaccination, and results in a reduction in virus detection in nasal swabs in hamsters and macaques.
These immediate onset mRNA vaccine reactions may not be mechanistically caused by classic allergy, called immediate hypersensitivity or Ig-E-mediated hypersensitivity, the researchers explained.
"If an Indian citizen beneficiary has taken first dose of Covishield or AstraZeneca (ChAdOx1 nCov-19) vaccine outside India, the beneficiary can register on CoWIN app at the time of taking the second dose of Covishield vaccine after prescribed time interval and details of first dose can be recorded on the CoWIN app at the same time."
This finding confirms that there are large differences in the number of secondary cases generated by infected people, with the majority of infections generating no further infections and a minority of the infections generating a large number of infections.
More than 41.99 crore (41,99,68,590) vaccine doses have been provided to states and the Union Territories (UTs) so far through all sources and a further 15,75,140 doses are in the pipeline.

10,98,62,585 persons in the age group of 18-44 years across 37 states/UTs have received their first dose, while 35,08,932 persons have received their second dose since the start of the Phase-3 of the vaccination drive.
NITI Aayog member (Health) Dr V K Paul said, "Moderna vaccine is under emergency use authorisation. The government is working actively with the manufacturers to see how to make this vaccine available in the country.
