Jyoti fondly named Raja, a Class-X student, fell into a drain in Shatabdi Nagar area while cycling his way to tuition at about 2 pm on Sunday afternoon and was swept away by the gushing floodwater.

Odisha Congress Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Niranjan Patnaik alleged that such mishaps are recurring due to negligence and callous attitude of the State government.

A ‘magnanimous’ state government has sought to silence the disquiet over the unfortunate death of Jyoti Prakash Behera, a Class X student who fell into an open drain and was swept away to death on Sunday, with a ‘generous’ ex-gratia of 4 lakh rupees. 

The Opposition parties on Monday targeted the State government accusing it of ‘killing’ the innocent child after the recovery of the body of 15-year-old school student who was swept away in a drain left open by the BMC authorities
