Assam tea industry has been severely affected due to heavy rainfall for the past two months. According to the Guwuhati Tea Auction Center (GTAC), production of tea in June and July has gone down by 8 million kilograms. As per the reports of GTAC, Assam’s crop size for June and July last year was 90.85million Kg and 103.24 million Kg respectively.
Hundreds of lush green tea plantations nestled in the foothills of Assam's Himalayas have not only added to the natural beauty of the states, but are also the backbone of its economy. But unfortunately, those who play a key role in these industries, the thousands of workers of the tea gardens are still live penury.
