Women, two minors killed in LPG cylinder blast in Kalahandi

Kalahandi: In a tragic incident, three persons of a family were killed after a cooking gas cylinder exploded inside their house at Thanat village under Dharamgarh block of Kalahandi district today.

As per reports, wife of one Ajit Meher of Thanat village was cooking in the kitchen when the mishap occurred. Meher’s wife and two children were killed in the blast.

On getting information, a fire brigade unit rushed to the spot but the house was already gutted, informed sources.

“It’s a very heart-wrenching incident. Although the villagers tried to douse the fire by themselves, the intensity of the flames was so high that in no time it engulfed the entire house” said D. Kishor, Sarpanch of the village.

Meanwhile, Dharamgarh police has reached the spot and begun investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion.

“It is suspected that the explosion took place due to leakage in the gas cylinder. After post-mortem, the exact cause can be known” said Dharamgarh Police Station IIC, D. Paraja.
