Women ransack liquor shop in Jajpur

Jajpur: Opposing unchecked liquor flow in their locality, over 200 women wielding bamboo sticks and brooms on Friday ransacked an alcohol shop in Chadheidhara area of Jajpur district, police said.

The women destroyed a large number of liquor bottles in the presence of policemen and shop attendants who did not put up any resistance as the women vastly outnumbered them.

The women said they were forced to take law in their hands as the authority did not pay any heed despite repeated pleas to close the shop which had become a den of anti-socials.

The liquor shop was closed down recently following a stir by hundreds of women of SHGs and local residents. However, it had reopened with police protection recently.

Police registered a case but none was arrested.
