Bhubaneswar: As per the official announcement made by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on November 13, around 37 lakh beneficiaries across state will receive a sum of Rs 200 each from Saturday to buy blanket for the winter season.

According to official sources, 27 lakh elderly people, six lakh widows and four lakh persons with disability coming under Madhubabu Pension Yojana will be benefitted by the scheme. Similarly, the sum of Rs 200 as winter aid will also be available for the HIV infected people. The government will incur Rs 74 cr additional expenditure from state exchequer.

The beneficiaries will get the amount along with their monthly pension and will spend it to purchase winter blanket.

Praising such humanitarian scheme, BJD Deputy Chief Whip yesterday brought a vote of thanks motion in the assembly for the chief minister. The ruling party members supported such proposal while Congress saw red in the scheme as the opposition apprehended corruption in the scheme. They demanded the government to provide blanket directly to the poor instead of cash.
