Bhubaneswar, May 25 (PTI) Western Odisha continued to reel under intense heat wave condition and the mercury level remained above 40 degree Celsius in 10 places though the temperature fell in coastal districts.

Bhawanipatna, the district headquarters town of Kalahandi district, recorded highest temperature of 45.5 degree C followed by Titlagarh at 45 degree C, the IMD said.

Other places in the western region which sizzled were Jharsuguda (44.2), Hirakud (44.1), Bolangir (43.5), Sundergarh (43), Sonepur (42.7), Sambalpur (42.2), Talcher (41.8) and Angul (41.1).

Even when many places in the coastal belt experienced light rains and thunderstorm yesterday evening and today, the mercury level remained within 40 degree C.

Bhubaneswar, however, recorded 40.2 degree C with high humidity level at 92 per cent. The maximum temperature in neighbouring Cuttack was 39 degrees C.

The death toll due to sunstroke remained unchanged at 20, according to Special Relief Commissioner's office.
