Two students drown in Birupa river in Kendrapara; 1 body fished out

Kendrapara: Two boys of Choti village reportedly went missing after drowning in Birupa River in Kendrapara district. The mishap occurred when the boys were taking a bath in the river. While one body has been recovered, efforts are on by Fire Services personnel to trace the other boy.

According to sources, the students named Akash Das and Divyajyoti Pradhan went missing after they were swept away by the strong current of the river. Following the incident, Derabish and Kendrapara Fire Services personnel reached the spot and launched a massive rescue operation to trace the missing students.

After an hour of search, the body of Akash was fished out of the water while search operation was still continuing for the other missing student till last reports came in.

Akash was a Plus II student while the missing student Divyajyoti had recently appeared for Matric examinations.

Both Akash and Divyajyoti along with some of their friends had gone to take a bath in the river. Sources said Akash got swept away while trying to save Divyajyoti from drowning.
