Bolangir: The annual 'Sulia Yatra' began in Bolangir today which is observed by the tribals of Khairguda and Kumuria villages under Deogaon block of the district.

The rituals began late last night after 'Nisi Puja' was conducted by the tribal residents in the area.

As per reports, holding traditional weapons, the tribal residents will take out a rally. During the festival, hundreds of animals including goats and buffalos will be sacrificed.

During the tribal festival, gods and goddesses are worshipped with ancient rituals by the locals.

Meanwhile, hundreds of devotees from outside the State have come to witness the festival in the district. On the other hand, the district administration has made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident during the festival.

Every year during Sulia Jatra, scores of wildlife conservationists, administrative officials, political leaders visit the villages urging the locals to stop the bloodbath rituals. However, the locals have been continuing the sacrificial rituals.
