Students Made To Kneel On School Verandah, Thrashed By Odisha Teacher

Keonjhar: Despite a ban on corporal punishments, incidents of students being tortured and beaten up are being reported at regular intervals in several schools in Odisha. This time a video of a teacher forcing students to kneel down and thrashing them has shocked people across the State. The barbaric act has been reported from Pitatangar Upper Primary School in Keonjhar district.

As per the allegations, the accused teacher Rati Narayan Rout made nearly 10 students kneel down and thrashed them with a cane on school verandah. When contacted, Rout clarified that as the students were not concentrating on studies despite warnings following which he thrashed them.

After the incident came to fore, the District Education Officer (DEO), Kapilendra Mishra ordered the block education officer to conduct a probe.

Later, the concerned teacher was reportedly placed under suspension by the block education officer.
