Jajpur: One person was killed and five others injured as a thunderstorm hit some parts of Korei, Bari, Rasulpur and Vyasnagar municipality areas of Jajpur district on Sunday evening, official sources said.

The tornado damaged hundreds of houses, uprooted a number of trees, electric and telephone poles during its 15 minutes of fury, blocking roads and disrupting power supply and telecommunication in three blocks and one urban body areas.

Sixty-year-old Sarathi Malik of Haripur village under Rasulpur block in the district died when the branch of a tree fell on her while she was collecting mangoes from an orchard.

Two persons were injured seriously at Khasagadia village under Korei block after a wall of their house collapsed. The injured persons were taken to government hospitals at Korei, Jajpur Road and Bari.
