Spat over timings: Private buses stay off roads between Puri & Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Just a day after commuters had a harrowing time due to the country-wide shutdown following a bandh call by the Congress over rise in fuel prices, private buses plying between Puri and Bhubaneswar stayed off roads today after a spat over timings of the buses surfaced between the private bus owners’ associations of both the cities creating more troubles for people.
Hundreds of passengers commuting between Bhubaneswar and Puri have been stranded due to the disruption in the services.
Accusing the Puri Private Bus Owners’ Association of detaining as many as 18 buses belonging to Bhubaneswar since last 3 days, the Capital city bus association today stopped all the bus services to the pilgrim city.
Bhubaneswar Bus Owners’ Association secretary Barada Prasanna Acharya accused the Puri bus owners of creating problems for the former to ply buses from the capital city to Puri.
“They have detained our buses for no reason due to which we have suffered huge losses. Harassment of our employees has become a daily affair in Puri and no one is interestedin running their buses to the city,” said Acharya.
On the other hand, the Private Bus Owners’ Association of Puri alleged that the Bhubaneswar bus owners have intentionally stopped their buses from plying.
Secretary of Private Bus Owners’ Association of Puri, Lokanath Pani said, “Bhubaneswar is situated in the centre, taking advantage of which its bus owners are not allowing them to ply their buses freely. At least 12 of our buses are being held in Bhubaneswar Baramunda bus stand and until our buses are released, we will not free their vehicles.”
