Berhampur: Security has been tightened in all the police stations in communally sensitive Kandhamal district, particularly in Raikia and G.Udayagiri block in view of the Maoists threat to blow up the police establishments through a poster campaign, police sources said today.

A large number of posters were pasted at Raikia and nearby Mandikia chowk yesterday which demanded immediate release of Bidya Ratnamani Digal alias Muti and implementation of the agreements made between the state government and the naxal selected mediators during abduction of the then Malkangiri collector in February.

The posters claimed to have been pasted by the Phulabani-Ghumusar division of the banned Maoist outfit. Police seized all the posters. Even though the police raised doubts over the genuineness of the posters, security has been tightened in the police stations, combing operation and vehicle checking intensified in the areas. "We have intensified the combing operation and tightened the security" said SP (Kandhamal) JN Pankaj.

"We are verifying the genuineness of the posters and started investigation to find out who pasted these," said another senior police officer. Police on Thursday arrested Muti from his Gundhari village allegedly for his involvement in Maoist activities in the area for last some years.
