Ranendra Pratap Swain whose nominations papers were rejected last time in 2009 was in no mood to take any chances and had filed four sets of nominations papers for the by-election. However, one set of papers were found to be improper and was rejected leaving three sets acceptable.
Ranendra had moved the High Court after rejection of his nominations which had countermanded the elections. The apex court of the country had even upheld the High Court decision necessitating the by-election.
The nomination papers of Congress candidate Suresh Mohapatra and BJP candidate Bikram Dash too have been accepted. Ten candidates had filed altogether 19 sets of nomination papers. The nomination papers of all the ten candidates have been accepted and it included six independent candidates.
