Politicians, MLAs Will No Longer Be Inducted Into College Governing Bodies: Odisha Minister
Bhubaneswar: From now on, no politicians or the local MLA would be inducted into the governing body of the degree colleges, Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo informed on Thursday.
Addressing a programme convened by Odisha Parents Association, Arun Sahoo announced that the degree colleges in Odisha will not have local MLAs and politicians as their governing body president and only educationists or academicians will be given such positions.
Briefing media on this, Sahoo said, “We will induct academicians, educationists and persons who have experience in management as the presidents of the college governing bodies.”
“The decision has been finalized and it will soon be notified in the gazette,” added Sahoo.
The minister also urged the parents to guide the youths in the righteous way.
Meanwhile, educationists and students have welcomed the decision. Eminent academician, Raghunath Panda said, “Other members in the governing body can’t express their opinions freely because of the presence of the local MLA. I am glad that this is history now.”
