Nabarangpur: The district police rescued 30 bonded labourers including minor girls and boys in Nabarangpur late last night. The labourers were being taken to Visakhapatnam in a bus by two middlemen who were detained by the police.

Acting on a tip-off, cops searched the bus near Majhiguda Chhak in Nabarangpur district and rescued the labourers, who are residents of Kandagaon of Chhattisgarh.

When the middlemen were asked to show required documents, they failed to produce them before the cops following which they were taken into custody for questioning.

“The rescued labourers include minor girls and boys as well. We have launched a probe to find out under what circumstances these bonded labourers were being trafficked outside the State,” said a senior police official.
