Cuttack: A plea has been made to replace English signboards in City Buses plying in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.

Central Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) Aravinda Padhee has sought steps for writing the running digital boards in City buses showing the routes in which they are plying in Odia only, official sources said today.

Padhee has requested the transport department to ensure that the company, which runs the city bus service in the three cities, changes the language of digital sign boards and all other information of public importance in the buses into Odia immediately for the benefit of the common people.

The RDC also has made a similar request to the Cuttack city DCP to ensure that the digital sign board at the traffic tower in Madhupatna Square also uses Odia language to provide vital information of public importance.

Observing that many police stations in the city have their signboards written in only English language, the RDC has asked the DCP to look into it saying that many people coming from rural areas are not able to locate the police stations for necessary assistances.

It may be recalled that cultural organisation Utkal Sammilani had made similar observations earlier and had requested the RDC to act upon it as soon as possible.

Expressing concern over rampant use of a foreign language in sign boards and bill boards disseminating vital information of public interest, it had approached the authorities several times to check it.
