Pipli/Bhubaneswar: With every passing day the voice of protest against agriculture minister and BJD MAL from Pipli is becoming stronger and more and more organisations have started demanding his ouster from the state cabinet. Civil society members, activists of several non-government organisations and activists of students and youth wings the Congress party today held protest meetings and demonstrations to up the ante against the minister.

The activists of the students wing of the opposition Congress today brought out a huge rally from the Congress Bhawan which terminated at the PMG Square. The rallyists gave slogans against the agriculture minister and demanded his resignation from the cabinet. The workers also burnt the effigy of the agriculture minister. Likewise, activists of the Youth Congress staged demonstration before the office of the additional district magistrate and demanded his ouster from the ministry. The Youth Congress workers even collected donations from the public for the treatment of the victim and alleged that the government was reluctant to bear the expenditure of the victim under going treatment in the SCB medical in Cuttack. The activists later gave a memorandum to the Governor demanding the immediate resignation of Pradeep Maharathi.

Civil society members, activists of NGOs, journalists and leaders of several non-BJD political parties today met the family members of the gang rape victim. Said senior journalist, Rabi Dash,"The government is hardly interested to bring out the truth. We want CBI probe."

However, the agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathi has refuted the charges leveled at him. "I was even not present in the area on the day the incident took place. I became aware about the incident only from the media. I am in no way connected with the incident nor do I have links with the accuseds. Neither myself nor anyone from our party is in any way linked with the incident." Maharathi`s defence notwithstanding, the decibel of protest against him and the demand for his resignation has been increasing with every passing day.
