Pipli/Bhubaneswar: The First Class Judicial Magistrate of Pipli today on the petition of the crime branch permitted the investigating agency to take the main accused in the Pipli gang rape incident Prashant Pradhan on a two-day remand while one of the three other co-accuseds Guna Swain alias Guna was arrested by the crime branch sleuths from a village situated between Pipli and Nimapara. Guna had taken shelter at the house of one of his relatives. Medical examination of Guna was over and he was subjected to  quizzing about the incident by the investigating sqauad.

Meanwhile reports said that the family members of the victim now under treatment in the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack were unwilling to shift her to AIIMS in New Delhi for better treatment.

The crime branch today produced main accused Prashant Pradhan alias Pasei before  the JMFC in Pipli. The JMFC Minakshi Priyadarshini initially sent Prashant on a 14-day judicial remand. But on the subsequent request by the crime branch the judge allowed the investigating agency to take Pasei on a two-day remand for further quizzing. Interestingly no one moved bail application for Prashant in the JMFC court.

In another development, the SCB medical authorities today submitted the status report on the condition of the victim in the Odisha High Court. The family members of the victim have spurned the suggestion by the SCB authorities to shift the victim to the AIIMS in New Delhi for better medical treatment and instead requested that the victim must continue to be treated at the SCB medical. The High Court has made it clear that the victim could not be shifted from SCB medical without prior consent of her family members. Two other co-accuseds Sukanta Pradhan alias Abua and Premanand Nayak were however still at large.
