Berhampur/Nayagarh: The CPI (Maoist) today received a big jolt when the personal body guard of top naxal leader Sabyasachi Panda and an expert in tiffin bomb making Rajendra Kumar Raita surendered before the Superintendent of Police of Ganjam district at Berhampur. Twenty three-year-old Rajendra who hailed from village Kutinigunda under Adaba police station on Gajapati district was an active member of the Bansdhara-Ghumusar division of the CPI(Maoist) and was a close confidant of Sabyasachi. He often used to collect intelligence for Sabyasachi.
The Ganjam SP said that Rajat was upset at the Chhatisgarh Maoist cadres dominating over cadres from the state. Said rajat,"The Chhatisgarh cadres even tortured our female cadres. I was asked not to oppose it."
In another development, the Crime Branch police today produced top Maoist leader Azad in the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate court in Nayagarh. The SDJM sent Azad in judicial remand for two weeks. Azad stood accused in the Nayagarh armoury attack and loot incident that took place in 2008.
