Bhubaneswar: The Congress and the BJP lashed out at the Odisha government today for delay in disbursal of insurance claims to farmers and staged a walkout in State Assembly.

During a discussion on adjournment notice over crop insurance in the State Assembly today, the Opposition alleged that farmers in the State are suffering due to the callous attitude of the Naveen Patnaik-led government towards disbursal of insurance claims.

It was also alleged that though some farmers have received input subsidy, most of them are yet to get the insurance claims.

"Lakhs of farmer in the State are yet to get insurance claims for crop loss. Even the farmers who had deposited money, failed to get their claims. Dissatisfied with the answer of the concerned minister in the Assembly, we staged a walkout today," said Opposition Chief Whip, Tara Prasad Bahinipati.

Speaking on the matter, Cooperation Minister Surya Narayan Patro said, "Crop cutting has been done and details are with us. I asked the Leader of Opposition to show me the discrepancies following which action will be taken."
