On-Duty RTO Official Dies After Being Run Over By Truck

Keonjhar: An RTO employee lost his life after being run over by a truck during vehicle checking near Keonjhar bypass road on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Kumar Mahanta, who worked as a driver at the RTO office in the district. The Transport Department was conducting an inspection on National Highway-20 near Pokharipani Purunabazar bypass today morning when the mishap took place.

According to reports, Mahanta was trying to stop a 14-wheeler truck coming from the wrong side but instead of stopping, the driver ran the heavy vehicle over Mahanta killing him on the spot.

"We were on our way to Anandpur to attend the DL Camp, when we saw a truck coming from the wrong side. To stop that truck he(Mahanta) had gone to the other side of the road, but the vehicle ran over him," said Kanhucharan Banara, Junior MVI, Kenonjhar.

Reportedly, the driver along with the truck fled the spot after the accident.
