Nayagarh: As if reports of negligence, doctor shortage, lack of infrastructure were not enough, a video of a nurse seeking bribe for removing stitches from a pregnant woman has once again exposed the chinks in healthcare service delivery in Odisha.

According to sources, Kameswar Achari, a resident of Solapat village under Sarankul police limits of Nayagarh district admitted his pregnant wife for delivery at Nayagarh government hospital.

Upon payment of Rs 5000, a surgery was performed on her and after some days of recovery when she returned to remove stitches from her body, a nurse on duty at the hospital asked her to pay Rs 200.

But as her family members hesitated, the nurse continued to exhort them to pay the money. Irritated with the behavior of the nurse, Kameswar shot a video of his conversation reportedly with the nurse while she was demanding money.

The matter came to light after the video went viral on social media. The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has confirmed the incident and assured to take action after probe into the matter.
