Bhubaneswar: An Armed Police Reserve (APR) constable of Dhenkanal Reserve Police has been detained by Andhra Pradesh police for allegedly stealing an AK-47 rifle.

The constable has been identified as Abhimanyu Sahu, a resident of Baisinga under Kamakshyanagar of Dhenakanal district.

Sources said Abhimanyu along with five other officers had gone to Andhra Pradesh for bringing Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines to Odisha.

However, he was detained by the Bhogapuram Police in Vizianagaram district of AP on charges of stealing an AK-47 riffle.

Meanwhile, family members of Abhimanyu have knocked the doors of the Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police (SP) seeking his release.
