Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday felicitated two school kids--SK Tasif Raja and Md Soyaib of Fazalpur village in Jajpur district, for showing exemplary courage in saving a six-year-old boy from drowning in a pond.

Patnaik felicitated the duo with study materials including dictionary and grammar book during a ceremony held at the Lok Seva Bhawan here last evening.

Worth mentioning here that, Abul Ruman Khan, a student of Sadakpur Primary School had accidentally slipped into a roadside pond while returning from the school after Ganesh puja celebration on September 2.

Finding the minor drowning in the pond, Raja and Soyaib jumped into the water and saved Abdul by pulling him out of the water body.

"We were returning from school after Ganesh puja celebration when we heard someone screaming from the pond rushed to see what was happening. On reaching the spot, we found that a boy was drowning. Without a second thought we jumped into the water and saved him," said the brave boy Raja.

The presence of mind of the school kids saved a life and their heroic act has received appreciation from all quarters.

Among others, Jajpur MP Sarmistha Sethi, Korei MLA Ashok Bal, CMO officials and parents of the kids were present at the felicitation event.
