Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) here on Friday removed the jurisdictional restriction while applying for driving license (DL), learner’s license (LL) and registration of vehicle.

In a notification issued by the STA on Friday, the department said that the Odisha residents can now apply for grant of LL, final DL or registration of vehicle in any regional transport office (RTO) across the State.

Earlier, a person was eligible to apply for LL, final DL or registration at the concerned RTO in the jurisdiction of which the applicant was residing or had business. Now, the RTO's region-wise restriction has been removed as per the amended Motor Vehicles Act, informed the STA.

Proof of residence is the only document which the applications will now have to show while applying for LL, final DL or for registration of vehicle, added the STA in the notification.

On the other hand, the STA informed that more LL has been issued in just two months as compared to the whole year 2018.

The STA further informed that a total of 3.51 lakh LL were issued in the last couple of months (September and October), which is more than the LL issued (3.48 lakh) by the RTOs across Odisha in the entire year of 2018.

During September and October, 2019, the RTO Bhubaneswar-1 issued the highest- 35,000 LL followed by Ganjam- 23,000, Bhubaneswar-II (20,000), Cuttack (18,000) and Balasore (13,000), said STA.
