Bhubaneswar: The Orissa government today asked the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to take up necessary maintenance of two important National Highways in the state on a priority basis, official sources said.

In a letter to Dr C P Joshi, the union minister of Road Transport and Highways, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the maintenance work of NH-215 between Panikoili to Remuli and NH-200 had not been taken up for a long time.

Though the ministry had decided to convert the two NHs into four-lane in 2010, the authorities had stopped maintenance works. Therefore, the condition of these two NHs had become bad to worse, Patnaik said in the letter.

"The road users are facing a lot of difficulties," the chief minister pointed out adding that the NHs should be maintained on priority basis.
