Bhubaneswar: Expressing happiness over the release of Malkangiri Collector, R V Krishna by Maoists, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday night said the state government did not bow down but made some commitments.

"I am very glad that both the collector and the junior engineer have been released," Patnaik told reporters shortly after Krishna was freed in Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri district.

"The state government did not bow own... but certain commitments have been made," he said replying to a query.

Patnaik said he had got the information about Krishna`s release from Malkangiri district administration.

Chief Secretary, B K Patnaik said it was a great relief for the state government. The Maoists had released junior engineer Pabitra Majhi yesterday and the district collector tonight.

He also said the government had not buckled under any pressure.

The Malkangiri collector was released before the deadline, Home Secretary U N Behera said, adding he had spoken to Krishna after he was let off.

"Krishna appears cheerful," he said.

Describing the nine-day hostage crisis as challenge to the state government, he thanked the mediators for helping in defusing the crisis.
