Rourkela: A woman constable posted in the Excise office in the steel city lodged a complaint alleging misbehaviour and harassment against a sub-inspector of the department here on Sunday.

The woman constable lodged a written complaint against the accused Surya Narayan Rath, at Mahila police station in Rourkela alleging that despite her sincere requests, he has been harassing her for the past five months.

In her complaint, the lady constable further alleged that despite repeated pleas to the higher authorities, no action was taken against the accused.

"On September 18, I had gone to a village with Rath for duty where he repeatedly touched me inappropriately. When I protested, he dared me to complain against him. I had approached the superintendent and narrated my ordeal. However, instead of helping me, he threatened me with transfer," the complainant said.

Acting on the complaint lodged by the lady constable, a case has been registered at the Sector-3 Mahila police station and a probe has been initiated into the incident.

Panposh sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Asim Panda confirmed that the lady constable of the excise department has lodged a complaint against the sub inspector. "We are inquiring into the allegations and will take action after thorough examination," he added.

However, the accused SI was unavailable for any comment in connection with the allegations.
