Kendrapara: Criminal cases have been slapped against a minor girl and her parents for allegedly authoring an abduction drama and misleading the police by filing a false FIR claiming that the girl was kidnapped from a crowded locality here.
 
Police said today that while four persons detained in connection with a false FIR registered by the girl were let off, criminal cases have been registered against the complainant and her parents.
 
The accused minor girl and her parents had lodged complaint at the Kendrapara police station alleging that the girl was abducted from a crowded locality of the township by three persons, including a woman.
 
The trio, as alleged in the FIR, took her to Cuttack where she escaped by raising an alarm, police said.
 
The purported incident took place on May 30. However, it was reported to police nine days later.
 
After thorough investigation, it was found that the whole episode was manufactured to settle personal score against the persons detained earlier by police, Kendrapara Superintendent of Police, Sarthak Sadangi said.
 
Cases have been registered against the minor girl and her parents under sections of IPC 384 (Punishment for extortion) and 182 (False information with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person) and 501 and 502 (relating to defamatory matter).
 
Three persons detained on the basis of the complaint were found innocent.
 
Investigators came across several contradictions in the substance of the complaint and the FIR recorded in the police station. On questioning, the accused confessed to have lodged the false complaint, the SP added.
 
The girl and her parents have not yet been arrested.
