Malkangiri: In a bizarre incident, an SPO was gunned down by the Maoists on public at Tatakonda village under Kalimela Police station in Malkangiri district on late Friday night.
 
The victim, identified as Kundu Madhi, had come to home on leave to meet his wife who delivered a baby three days ago. At least 20 armed rebels called him from his house Friday night and open fire at him. The red extremists had earlier threatened him to quit the police job and leave village. Kundu had come to village three days ago.
 
Police intensified combing operation after the incident.
