Bhubaneswar: A five-member delegation of Lower Suktel Action Committee (LSAC) will meet chief secretary BK Patnaik and other government officials on Friday to discuss on the irrigation project construction work.

The move followed LSAC’s nod to meet the officials after the former received a proposal from the government regarding the discussion three days back. The government, it is learnt, was forced for a sit with the pro-project activists, after it observed momentum for the project was gaining support from all walks of life across the district.

Kantabanhji Congress MLA Santosh Singh Saluja, who was on his week-long suspension from Assembly for taking a jibe at speaker Pradip Kumar Amat, also backed the two-day hunger strike called by LSAC on Friday. As many as five members of the committee have been reportedly admitted to hospital after their health condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, to strengthen the drive, several social organisations have started joining LSAC’s relay hunger strike which entered 8th day on Wednesday. Hundreds of activists under the banner of ‘Lower Suktel Budianchal Sangram Parisad’ joined their hands to intensify the drive.
