Bhubaneswar: The Nandankana Zoological Park authorities have embarked upon several new plans on programs on the 52nd foundation day today. The authorities have placed CCTV cameras in the enclosures meant for the tigers. The step has been initiated after the authorities faced flak following the death of tiger cubs in the zoo.

Five tiger cubs recently died in the Nandankanan Zoological Park sending flutter among animal right activists and lakhs of visitors. The authorities have already placed two CCTV cameras in Enclosure number 32 housing tigress Sarah. For, Sarah is expecting for the first time in her life and the authorities do not want to take any chances in her care. The authorities revealed that a beer safari would be opened in the park next year.

On the 52nd foundation day the authorities felicitated several animal care takers. The officials said that while the mortality rate among animals in zoos stood at six percent at the national level in 2010-11, it was only 3 percent in Nanadankanan.
