Keonjhar/Bhubaneswar: The three MLAs of Keonjhar district, Champua MLA Jitu Pattanaik, Anandpur MLA Bhagirathi Sethi and Keonjhar MLA Suvarna Nayak have made a strong plea for taking stringent action against the Barbil tehsildar for his alleged   controversial role in the frisking away of two iron-ore loaded trucks from the Lahanada  weigh bridge. Meanwhile, investigations by OTV revealed that state-of-the-art CCTV  system was installed at the weigh bridge where the incident took place on the night of  February 25.

The three MLAs have demanded action against the Barbil tehsildar raising questions about his presence at the Lahanada weigh bridge along with the main accused in the case on the night the incident took place. The Champua, Anandpur and Keonjhar MLAs have demanded that the administration should thoroughly probe about the whereabouts of the CCTV footages and about the two trucks in question which were
over-loaded.

The Deputy Director of Mines of Joda division who had initially stated that there were CCTV footages of the incident later withdrew his statement on technological ground. However, OTV investigations revealed that the CCTV system installed at the weigh bridge was of top quality. Twelve halogen lights were placed on a high-mast lighting system and the revolving cameras were placed on its top. Even generators were put in place to collect pictures in case of power failure. The cameras were powerful enough to capture any movement within a radius of 200 meters. But then the questions arise what happened to the CCTV footages? The chief secretary Bijoy Pattanaik said, “Action will be taken against the persons found guilty on the basis of the inquiry report by the district collector."

Meanwhile, the district collector has sent his inquiry report to the department of steel and mines. The report, sources indicated, has admitted that the Barbil tehsildar Sasanka Shekhar Dash in fact on the night of February 25 went to the Lahanda weigh bridge with the main accused.
