Paradeep: Aiming to ward off possible terror attacks and preventing infiltration, a two-day naval mock security drill kicked off here on Tuesday.

A large stretch of the sea off Orissa coast turned into a virtual war zone as “Operation Hamla 2”, began with Indian Navy, Coast Guard, CISF personnel, Orissa police, port marine department, and fishery and customs department taking part in it.

“Under the supervision of Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Coast Guard, five police districts of the Orissa coast are participating in this joint naval exercise”, said SDPO of Tirtol, Santanu Kumar Das.

Vessels of Indian Navy Nirvik, Savitri, Bibhuti, along with Bajra, Chand biwi and Sarojini of Coast Guard and Java and Sumatra of Port marine department were engaged in the drill. The exercise on land and sea is a cat and mouse game, where the forces would protect designated areas from being breached by undercover commandos who act as terrorists.
