As JMM activists shouting slogans against the chief minister and carrying black flags and banners, proceeded towards meeting venue at Badachatra, 327 demonstrators were arrested at Jharpokhria, the police said.

The arrested JMM activists include party's District President Bhadav Hansda, State Spokesperson Krushnananda Mohanty, Chhatra Morcha President Rajiv Jena, they said.

Terming the inauguration of the imcomplete project as misleading, JMM leaders said the entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2017 and so far only the first phase of the main canal is ready, which the chief minister opened.

JMM Odisha unit president and former MP Sudam Marandi has claimed that though Subarnarekha Irrigation Project was started three decades ago its main canal is far from completion.

Official sources said by March 31, 2013, around Rs 2490 crore had been spent on the project with a total estimated cost of about Rs 5629 crore. It would create substantial irrigation capacity in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts.
