Cuttack: Assam Governor J B Patnaik has observed that small and medium scale  industries in Odisha actually flourished during 1980`s. During this period, public sector aluminium unit Nalco came into being while many industrial estates came up with the assistance of the State government creating huge employment, he said inaugurating the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Odisha Industries Association (OIA) here on Friday.

Patnaik was the Chief Minister between 1980 and 1989 leading the Congress government and had given a clarion call to set up thousand industries in thousand days.

Patnaik said the success of that vision is now clearly visible as the OIA celebrates its silver jubilee in a befitting manner. Patnaik, however, admitted that there had been some disappointments in the industrial sector but quickly added that failure for the first generation entrepreneurs was natural.

He asked the entrepreneurs not to get disheartened over the failures and suggested that corrective steps should now be taken to revive the sick small and medium industries.

Large-scale industries cannot survive on their own and therefore there is always a necessary to focus on small and medium units in order to ensure success in large industries, said the Assam Governor who is now on an official visit to Odisha.

On the occasion, the Assam Governor also inaugurated the Association`s newsletter-Shilpa Varta and went round the Shilpa Bazaar set up on the occasion.
