Bhubaneswar: The three-member team, probing into the death of nine infants in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla, on Monday gave a clean chit to the hospital mentioning that there was no dereliction of duty by the doctors.
 
"We have interviewed the Sister-in-charge, Staff Sister on duty, doctors, public and could not find any deficiency in duty or treatment. As because the nine babies were critically ill, they were referred to VSS Medical College, Burla at different date and time. All were in SNCU and well look after by the Pediatrician during their course of treatment at the hospital," said an official statement submitted to the State Government.
 
The babies were born at nine different places from different districts such as Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur and Sundergarh. As all were critically sick, death occurred at quick succession, it further said.
 
According to the team, most of the equipments at the medical are functioning perfectly and the SNCU of VSS Medical College, Burla is operating as per NRHM norm.
 
Nine newborn babies had died due to unknown reasons two days back at the SNCU within 24 hours, prompting the Odisha government to order an investigation into the shocking incident.
