Bhubaneswar: A male hippopotamus today succumbed to a fight with a larger hippo in the Nandankanan Zoological Park near here. Another male hippopotamus had died in the zoo earlier under similar circumstances.
According to the Deputy Director of Nandankanan Zoo, the larger male hippo does not allow the smaller hippos to come near it. The Nandankanan authorities had tried to put up underwater barricades to tackle the problem. However, the hippos brought down the barricades.
The death of the amphibian animal has brought down the hippo population in the Nandankanan Zoological Park to 13 including five male hippos.
